David and Sarah approached Blooming Sky in early April, 2016.
They had been living together in Chelsea for the past two years in a beautiful luxury rental building on the High Line. While they loved the building and the neighborhood, they were adamant about not renewing their lease. David and Sarah were no longer interested in throwing their hard-earned money away on rent, rather, they set a clear goal that 2016 would be the year they purchased their very first New York City apartment.
Blooming Sky was there to assist from the start.
The first thing we did was to promptly sit down with David and Sarah to understand what they were truly looking for in an apartment, including their timeline for purchasing and approximate price range.
Their wish list was comprised of the following details:
- Interested in Brooklyn, specifically Crown Heights
- Would be open to surrounding neighborhoods, such as Clinton Hill and Prospect Heights
- Space would need to be a 2 bedroom or a 1 bedroom with a home office
- Must be a 10 minute walk at most from the nearest reliable subway line
- Preferred to have outdoor space
- Needed to have high ceilings and be bright with natural light
- Apartment had to be a condo and pet-friendly, for their handsome pup Caleb
In terms of their timeline, David and Sarah had to be out of their Chelsea rental by the end of June. This meant there was only 2 months to find the right property, get financing and close on the apartment. Their price range was between $800,000 to $1,200,000.
With this information in mind, we went to work and set out to deliver on all their expectations.

We identified over a dozen properties and provided a deep quantitative and qualitative analysis of each of the apartments we presented.
We took David and Sarah out to Crown Heights, Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill several times until they identified an apartment that was perfect for them. Beyond looking at properties, we also walk neighborhoods with our clients to really get a deeper sense of the surrounding area. The apartment David and Sarah eventually set their sights on was a beautiful Prospect Heights duplex that featured 1 bedroom, 1.5 baths and 2 outdoor spaces their dog would love. After all was said and done, we were able to satisfy every item on their wish list, and in record time too.
We submitted an offer and were able to negotiate approximately $30,000 in savings.
Once the apartment was in contract, we helped David and Sarah navigate the mortgage process. They only had 30 days left between the time the contract was signed and when they needed to be out of their rental. We were able to get a significant reduction in the mortgage rates they were quoted and ensured that closing would take place at the end of June.
